Lewis Edward "Cotton" Saunders III of Staunton (formerly of Nelson County) died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27, 2007.He was born on June 12, 1956, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Lewis was the son of the late Lewis E. Saunders Jr. and the late Elsie Saunders Carter. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Sandra Grace; his paternal grandparents, Lewis E. and Gracie Drumheller Saunders; and maternal grandparents, Lewis T. and Margaret Evans Clements, all of Schuyler, Virginia.He is survived by his aunts, Margaret Napier, Pat Pugh and Nellie Pugh, all of Covesville, Virginia and Gladys Andrews of Petersburg, Virginia; his uncle, Herb "George" Clements of Petersburg, Virginia; and a special family member, Ruby Napier of Scottsville, Virginia. He also leaves behind many cousins, friends, and co-workers who will miss him dearly.A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2007, at Alberene Cemetery in North Garden, Virginia. Pastor Sandra Kelso will be officiating.The family requests no flowers.Memorial contributions can be made to Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge (SVTC), P.O. Box 3115, Staunton, VA 24402. SVTC is a discipleship-training center helping its students overcome addictions.The family wishes to thank Thacker Brothers Funeral Home for their assistance.
