Albert Joseph (AJ) Covas, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Tallahassee on March 20, 2017. Born in Centralia PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Covas. Mr. Covas joined the U.S. Navy immediately after graduating from Centralia High School. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, receiving numerous commendations and awards. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, serving primarily as a Senior Aviation Ordnanceman, in Jacksonville, FL in 1974. After his retirement he obtained Applied Science Certificates from Florida Junior College in both Carpentry and Plumbing. He enjoyed his retirement years woodworking, fishing and later in life, watching classic western movies. As a devout Catholic he maintained a strong faith and belief in God and prayer.

He is survived by his beloved and dedicated wife of 53 years, Fern, with whom he resided upon his passing. He is also survived by three children, Kathy Anderson of Bartow CA, Steven Covas (wife Patty) of Queen Creek AZ , and Mark Covas of Raritan NJ; three stepchildren, Sue Baker (Gene) of Tallahassee FL, Darrell Osburn (Ceci) of Marietta GA and Jim Osburn of Cairo GA; a brother, Joseph Covas of Alexandria VA; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind his faithful friend, Ritchie Gatz of Orange Park, FL.

Family will receive friends from 4-7 pm on Friday, March 31, 2017, at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, Orange Park, FL. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 am at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery, Orange Park, FL.
