Maria Matilde Romero y Rosas was born on 26 November 1809 in Los Angeles, Alta California to Jose Antonio Romero and Serafina Antonia Rosas. She was baptized on the same day at Mission San Gabriel. She married Jose Antonio Ramon Sotelo on 5 June 1826 at Mission San Gabriel. Matilde died in Los Angeles County and was buried on 10 January 1863 at Old Calvary Cemetery.
