Louis A. Gabriele, 84, of Queen Philomena Blvd., died at home on Friday, March 13, after a long illness. Son of the late Dominick and Julia Rovano Gabriele, Louis was born in Schenectady and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Draper High School. Louis was a former partner in the Marlou Dry Cleaners in Schenectady before taking a position with the New York State Dept. of Mental Health (Facilities Development Corp.), working 22 years as a Logistics Coordinator, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Pine Haven Golf Club as well as frequenting the Stadium and Schenectady Muni Courses. Louis was an avid golfer and bowler; he also liked to play cards, especially poker. But above all, Louis' greatest interest was his children and grandchildren. He always made it a point to attend all of their games and activities.
Louis was predeceased by his sister, Marie Caffarella.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura Cagnina Gabriele; his children, Julia (Roy) Aeschbacker of Bellville, Michigan, Thomas (Carolyn) Gabriele of Goodyear, Arizona and Cathy (William) Heilman of Charlton; grandchildren, Robyn Aeschbacker, Thomas (Jennifer) Aeschbacker, Christine (David) Gabriele, Thomas (Laura) Gabriele, Jr., Louis (Sarah) Gabriele, William (Janice) Heilman, Jr., David and Gabrielle Heilman; andgreat-grandchildren, Michael, Juliana, Hunter, Logan, Sofia and Lilliana. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral, Monday morning at 10:30 from the DeLegge Funeral Home, Inc., 1343 Chrisler Avenue with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
