Evea Bardin Huffaker, 100 (just 3 weeks shy of 101), passed away peacefully at home June 17, 2016.

She was born July 12, 1915 in May, Texas to Andrew Eugene and Dana Bardin.

Evea graduated from McCamey High School in 1931. She worked in retail for a time. She married Hollis Huffaker on Dec. 24, 1940.

Evea was a devoted Christian woman. She was a lifetime member of the Baptist church. She served the Eastside Baptist Church, McCamey (member since the 1950’s) as Sunday School secretary until about 2002. She was active in the WMU, helped with vacation Bible schools, and always participated in the hospitality of the church. For several years she was the pastor’s representative to the Ministerial Alliance and worked in the food pantry.

When she began attending the Dripping Springs United Methodist Church, she served by helping fold and address the church newsletter, fold bulletins, helped with hospitality, filled children’s worship bags, and faithfully attended services.

Evea loved family and was devoted to hers, supporting her children in all their endeavors and creating a warm and special home. Evea and her sisters and brothers organized a family reunion to be held every year to keep the family connected. She will be sorely missed, but her influence on the lives of her family and friends will continue.

Evea was a competitor. She played basketball in high school. She loved to play card and board games, enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games, and jigsaw puzzles. Reading was a pastime, as was sewing, doing needlepoint, and latch-work. She worked with the McCamey Historical Society on the history of McCamey and the area. Evea and Hollis grew and showed pecans, twice winning the Texas State Competion. She also had a green thumb and took pleasure in growing flowers of all kinds.

Evea was preceded in death by her husband Hollis, her son Gary, and her 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Evea is survived by her daughter Glenda Hart and her husband Ron of Dripping Springs, her daughter-in-law Brenda Huffaker of Waco, her step-grandson Michael Hart of Dripping Springs, step-granddaughter Pam Young of Brown Summit, N.C. and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held June 25 at 2 o’clock at the United Methodist Church in Dripping Springs. Her created remains will be buried in McCamey, Texas at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Hospice, Austin or Eastside Baptist Church, McCamey, Tx.
