Pvt. Gibson finished school in Waynesville, NC before entering the service and was employed at the Newport News shipyard.
He was buried in Crawford Memorial Gardens in June 1949, with the Rev. Bill Queen and Rev. Cox officiating. Complete military rites were conducted at the grave by the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Heavy Tank Company, 120th Infantry, North Carolina National Guard.
He was survived by his parents, six brothers and one sister.
