Betsey apparently married someone named KING between 1798 and 1799. In 1798, she is placed, as a 19 year old, under the guardianship of her uncle, Benjamin Robbins. In October of 1898, she gave birth to her daughter, Lydia, who frequently used the surname KING, including on her grave marker. There is a set of KING brothers, all born in Littleton, sons of Lt. James KING, and his wife, Lydia Pierce, who are the prime candidates for this first husband for Betsey.

By 20 May 1800, Betsey gave birth to her second child, Clarissa Bump, daughter of Edward Bump. [REF: Original data: State of Vermont. Vermont Vital Records through 1870. New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston, Massachusetts. Betsey's next eight children. all with Edward Bump were born at Mt. Holly, Rutland County, Vermont. This researcher has records for a total of sixteen children for Betsey, including Lydia KING. Family lore holds that she may have had as many as twenty-one pregnancies.

DEATH REFERENCE: It is presumed that Betsey died in Washtenaw County, Michigan sometime between the 1850 and 1860 census ennumerations. She is living there with her son, Simon Bump in the 1850, and she is not in the household in the 1860 census when Simon appears in Columbia County, Wisconsin, near his brother Moses.
