Athalie (Lee) Caesar Littell Ballard passed away peacefully in her sleep at The Glenview retirement community in Naples, Florida on March 5, 2017.

She was born August 28, 1916, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin to Orville and Altie Caesar.

Lee and her sister Doris Caesar Smith spent their early childhood years through high school in Los Angeles California before attending Northwestern University.

She was married to Arthur McIntosh Jr. at an early age and had two children before they divorced.

Later she married Willis Harrison Littell and had one child.

They remained devoted to one another for nearly 40 years when he passed away in 1985.

They happily lived on "Dorville" Farm in Barrington Hills, Illinois, and after Willis retired they spent winters in Naples Florida.

She later married Breaux Ballard of Louisville Kentucky until he passed away in 1991.

Lee was loved by all who knew her, always cheerful, caring, and thoughtful to everybody.

She had an indomitable and generous spirit and was multi-talented. She was involved in many community events, notably the Barrington chapter of The Garden Club of America where she won the prestigious Fenwick Award in 1986 with her sister Doris.

Lee was also the recipient of the Dorthea Wallace award. As the daughter of Orville Caesar, an inventor and co-founder of the Greyhound Bus Corporation, Lee had the opportunity to travel the world; once circling the globe on the Concorde and remarkably surviving engine failure on a small plane over Sub-Saharan Africa.

Playing golf was another one of Lee's great passions in life as she was once club champion at Barrington Hills Country Club.

Later in life, her favorite times were had on the golf course in both Harbor Springs Michigan, and Naples Florida with her six grandsons. Her artistic talents included painting and needlepoint, and she was best known for her exceptional work with shells she collected on the beach in Naples.

She produced very creative faces, flowers, mirrors, and birds from shells and was once featured on a Naples TV show.

Always an artist, Lee was producing oil paintings and needlepoint into her ninety-ninth year of life.

Lee is survived by two of her three children: Dana Hutton of Lake Wales Florida and Chip (Arthur) McIntosh (Kay) of Palo Alto California, seven grandchildren; Jay Wilson of Denver Colorado (Elaine), Genny Wilson of Naples Florida, Christopher Wilson of Melbourne Florida, Blair Hutton (Katie) of Lake Forest Illinois, Jay Hutton (Cassandra) of Chicago Illinois, Hawley McIntosh of Las Vegas Nevada and Monty McIntosh (Sheila) of Denver Colorado as well as eleven great grandchildren.

Her daughter, Heather Morse, predeceased her by one week.

There was a memorial in honor of Lee and Heather in Naples on March 11, and there will be another event in Barrington Hills at a later date.

Athalie will be interred at Evergreen Cemetary in Barrington Illinois. Donations can be made in her honor to Vitas Hospice, 4980 Tamiami Trail N., Suite 102, Naples, FL 33108.
