Ellen was the eighth child of Peter and Bridget (White) Gallagher of Achill, Mayo, Ireland.
She married John Ruane in 1911 at the Roman Catholic Church at Foxford, Mayo. Just five years later, Ellen developed a perforated ulcer, went into shock, and was gone after 18 hours. Today we know that she died from septicemia.
Three of her siblings emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio.
