Cousin. I remember. I was only 7 when Coleman was killed. My brother was in at Parris Island at the time in boot camp, he was going to serve too. Both of them straight out of Charles D. Owen High School. I remember Coleman's funeral - sort of. I have a eighteen year old son, and I have just come to realize just how young Coleman and so many of the guys were when the stood firm for our country. The best story I can remember about Coleman was. I was probably 5 or so and visiting my aunt. My uncle and Coleman were getting ready to go on a hunting outing and of course we were in the way. My Aunt and I went out on the porch and I can to this day remember telling Aunt Katie, "I hope a big old bear eats them." But you know later that night when I went to bed, I told my aunt that I was sorry and really hoped the bear would leave them alone. I never got to tell Coleman that I didn't want the bear to get him and Uncle Bucky. Gosh I miss him. Wendy Boren.

Unbeknownst to his immediate family, Coleman had a daughter; Tanya Marie Wright Drew was born 21 January 1968. Tanya finally met those family members that she had never known in October of 1995 in her father's hometown, Black Mountain, NC. A fitting, joyous occasion in the legacy of a fallen hero. He now has 3 grandsons and a fine son-in-law, Melvin, all of whom he would be proud. A Former Marine.

He enlisted in the Marines 13 January 1966 at the Charlotte Armed Forces Recruiting Office.
The battalion was participating in Operation Buffalo in the area of Route 561, 3 kilometers northeast of Con Thien when Charlie Company was ambushed by NVA hostile forces.

He was the son of Mr Herbert C. & Ann K Wright, Box 607, Black Mountain, NC.

He served with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal.
