Robert P. Barnes of Charlotte, NC passed away Tuesday March 1, 2016, at the age of 94. Born in Anson County, he grew up in Asheboro, NC. He was the son of the late Eugene P. Barnes and Beningna Yow Barnes. He is also preceded in death by his sister Frances Barnes Smith.

Robert graduated from Asheboro High School in 1938. After serving in the Navy aboard an LST ship during World War II, he went to work for Acme McCrary Corporation serving as the head of their electrical and construction departments. He retired in 1993 after more than 40 years with the company.

Robert was a life long member of First United Methodist Church in Asheboro and was an active member of the D.W. Holt Sunday School class until he moved to Charlotte.

Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Isabelle Rush Barnes and daughter Ann Barnes Walker and son-in-law Gregg Walker of Charlotte, NC. He was blessed to have three grandsons, Nathan, Joshua and Eli Walker.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue Asheboro, NC 27203. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Aldersgate Supplemental Assistance Fund. Through this fund, Aldersgate, the continuing care community where Robert lived and Isabelle continues to live, is able to provide financial assistance to residents facing unexpected financial needs.
