Richard K. Burk, 88, of Bristol, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2017, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dent K. Burk and Kathrine N. Burk; and three sisters, Sylvia D. Burk, Joyce B. Slagle, and Beverly B. Logan. Richard was a native and lifelong resident of Bristol. He attended The Citadel, the military college of S.C. at Charleston, where he was a Distinguished Military Student and thereby received a commission as a Regular Army officer. He served in Korea and later was assigned as an instructor in the Weapons Department of the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga. After his military service, he did graduate work at Middle Tenn. State University and East Tenn. State University. He was employed as a teacher in the Science Department at Tenn. High School where he taught for 35 years and at the time of his retirement, he was the Coordinator of the Science Department at Tenn. High School. He is survived by a niece and five nephews, all of Bristol and upper East Tenn. Following his wishes, interment was private in the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol, Va.
