R.E. Golightly, 80, of Garland passed away May 1, 2004. He was born at Merkel on December 29, 1923. The family moved to Floydada and he graduated from Floydada High School in 1942. He was an outstanding football player and champion Golden Glove boxer and an all- around athlete at FHS. He was a Sergeant in the Marines in World War II, and a Baptist.

R.E. married his high school sweetheart, Lula Lee Teal, of the Fairview Community in Floyd County, in 1945. A son, Mark, and a granddaughter, Holly, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Lee; a daughter, Linda Liston; a son Robert; two granddaughters, Heather and Jennie; and one grandson, Chad.
