ALEXANDRIA, Ind.--Arthur W. Skaggs Jr., 66, 303 N. Pennsylvania St., died Tuesday in Community Hospital, Anderson, after a long illness.
He was born in Brownsville, Ky., and had lived in Alexandria since 1935. He served on the Alexandria Police Dept. from 1950-1970, and then worked on the Alexandria Street Dept.
Mr. Skaggs was a member of First Baptist Church, American Legion Post 87, Fraternal Order of Police, Eagles Lodge 1771 and the Alexandria Athletic Boosters.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Martha Skaggs; a daughter, Debbie Hahn (husband: David), Noblesville; a son, Steve Skaggs, Alexandria; his mother, Anna Spocynski, Alexandria; a stepson, David Loer, Marion; a stepdaughter, Beverly Peters, London, Ky.; two brothers, Boyd Skaggs, Anderson, and Clarence Skaggs, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Wanda Elmore, Lawrence; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church. Calling is 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Owens Funeral Home or after 9 a.m. Friday at the church. The Alexandria Police Dept. will stand as an honor guard during the calling hours, and Alexandria American Legion will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
