Mrs. Mary E. Benedict, 78, widow of Horace P. Benedict, died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julius C. Gillette, 509 Turtle st. She was a lifelong resident of the First Ward and was active in the religious work of the First Ward Methodist Episcopal Church. Besides Mrs. Gillette, she is survived by one other daughter, Mrs. Irving Fairchilds of Liverpool, and a brother, J. Henry Lawrence, of Norfolk Downs, Mass. Funeral services will take place from the Gillette home at 3:30 p. m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
