Joann L. Fagan was born on April 5, 1938, in PIttsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Charles J. and Hazel Blanche Brennan Fagan. She had a sister, Barbara.
Joann married Charles Melani. They had 3 children, Jackie, Jeff, and Tony. After Chuck passed away and after Art's wife passed away, Joann married Arthur Edward Schaeffer.
Joann was a resident of the Castle Shannon suburb in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, and later, a resident of the Chanticleer Condominiums in the Bethel Park suburb in the South Hills.
She was a longtime, devoted member of St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church in Castle Shannon, the Parish Secretary at St. Anne's for over 20 years, a Eucharistic Minister there, and a volunteer at their parish festival and fish fry.
Joann L. Melani Schaeffer passed away suddenly at home at Chanticleer 5 days before her 79th birthday.
She is survived by her children, Jackie Melani Umberger (Jeff), Judy Melani Kirtley (Paul), and Tony Melani (Cindy); and by her stepchildren, Arthur G. Schaeffer (Kate), Geralynn A. Schaeffer Learish (John), and Richard G. Schaeffer (Susan). She was predeceased by both husbands.
Laughlin Memorial Chapel in Castle Shannon was in charge of arrangements. Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Anne's, on April 5, 2017. Memorial donations were requested for St. Anne Catholic School in Castle Shannon or the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department. Joann was buried with her first husband.
