Mary was born December 21, 1925 at Arcadia, Kansas the daughter of Oscar L. and Effie Bell Smith Hines Sr. Mary married James Cattaneo and moved to Mulberry where they made their home together until his death. She continues to live in Mulberry until her health forced her to become a resident at Sunset Manor/Medicalodge of Frontenac.
Mary started working at a very early age and continued to do so until health forced her to retirement at age 72. She worked for the Rose family in Pittsburg, Kansas and always considered their two children Resa and Sam Rose as her children as Mary never had any children of her own.
Mary was a long time member of the Mulberry United Presbyterian Church.
Survovors include her brother-in-law, Raymond Cattaneo of Medicalodge of Frontenac, a sister-in-law, Lois Hines of Oregon, her nieces, Bonnie and Joyce Hines of Arcadia, nephew, Kenny Cattaneo and his wife Kathy of Pittsburg, great niece, Lauren Hines of Arcadia who helped provide for her care, great nieces Deanna Jameson of Cherokee, Barbara Taylor of Pittsburg, Heather Bowers who also provided for her comfort, nieces, Mary Van Winkle, Seiling, Oklahoma, Donna K Smith and Connie Love of Oregon, nephews, Jimmie Hines, Boyd Hines, and Michael Hines all of Oregon, Ernest Cattaneo of Kansas City, nieces, Connie Santarosa of Michigan, Margaret "Sissy" Manzanaras of Utah, nephew, Charlie Dixon of North Carolina, and numberous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Opal Jones and Ruby Halbirt and five brothers, George, Orval, Jim, Oscar Jr, (Dude) and Earl Hines.
