Barbara Jane Maxfield, 79, of the Nash's Ford section of Russell County, Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, after a lengthy illness from complications of Parkinson's Disease. She passed away at home surrounded by family with her husband and two sons at her bedside.

She was born in Wilder, Va., on August 10, 1937, to Ezra Jessee and Molly Rasnick Jessee. She was given away to her parents, Ellis and Bonnie Purcell, a family who gave her a wonderful childhood and loved her unconditionally. She graduated from Lees-McRae College with a medical secretary degree and was a member of Cleveland Methodist Church. Barbara was a loving Granny who enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Bonnie Purcell; two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Tony B. Maxfield; sons, Stephen "Steve" Edward Maxfield of Honaker, Va., and Michael Kevin Maxfield and wife Marsha "Marty" of Abingdon, Va.; grandchildren, Alicia Deel and husband Shawn and Breanna Grace Maxfield, all of Honaker, Madelynn Thompson, Olivia Maxfield, Michael Maxfield and Isaac Maxfield, all of Abingdon; and a special sister, Eileen Williams of Brandon, Fla.

Special thanks to Dr. Obuekwe and Grace Family Medicine, MSA Hospice and caregivers Hope Rosenbaum and Sandra Ashby.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Deel, Algie Ashby, Paul Asbury, Austin Owens, Chad Jessee, and Kip Lambert.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Daughtry, Donald Adkins, Linton Deel, C.F. Bailey, Joe Fuller, Fred Robinson, James Honaker, Gerald Thomas, Johnny Owens, Benny Martin, Fred Honaker, James "Coy" Singleton, Guy Harris, Sammy Rasnake and Danny Yates.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017, in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Elder Larry Blevins and Elder John Fields officiating. Interment will follow in the Maxfield Family Cemetery in Nash's Ford.

The family will receive friends on Friday after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
