Preacher and song writer. He wrote "He Leadeth Me" in 1862. It was written at the close of a lecture in the First Baptist Church, Philadelphia. He was a son of a Governor of New Hampshire. There is a marker at northwest corner Broad and Arch Streets where the church and Deacon Wattson's house stood. It reads: "The United Gas Improvement Company, in recognition of the beauty and fame of the hymn, and in remembrance of its distinguished author, makes this permanent record on the first day of June, 1926."
