Eldon became the man of the house at age 12 when his father died and from that time on knew hard work. Though the farm work kept him from attending school full time, with the encouragement of a teacher, he graduated from Ogden High School and went on to graduate from Brigham Young University.
He married Julina Smith June 8, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had four children: Eldon Charles Jr., Julina, Mildred "Millie" and Lewis. She passed away May 1997. He married Edith Page in Idaho Falls August 1998; divorced. He married Ester Del Rosario November 23, 2002 in Rexburg. The marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Eldon earned his master's degree from the University of Illinois. He accepted a job at Ricks College in Rexburg in 1940 and remained for 40 years. Working as a librarian, teacher and administrator, he developed a flight school. When Ricks College announced that they were phasing out the flight school, he developed a private flight/aircraft mechanic school, Aero Technicians, which he operated until 2004. He also started an excavation business, and then eventually tire sales, recapping, car dealership and service station business. From 1960 to 1964, he returned to the University of Illinois to work on a Ph.D.
His wife Ester; children Julina (Paul) Hokanson, Millie (Rich) Andrus, Lewis (Myrna) Hart; daughter-in-law Darlene (Glen) White; 31 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren survive. His parents, wife Julina, son Eldon Hart Jr., brothers Karl, Russell and Paul Hart; grandchildren Erin, Marsha and Vickie Hart predeceased Eldon.
