Union Civil War Veteran Soldier, Mayor of Mount Healthy, Ohio. Born in Ohio, he answered President Lincoln's call for volunteers to serve in the Civil War. He enlisted with the Union Army on July 13, 1861 when he was 13 years old. Brown was mustered into Company E of the 39th Ohio Volunteer Infantry for three years service. He re-enlisted with most of his regiment when their period of enlistment expired and was seriously wounded in battle near Atlanta, Georgia. After a brief period of convalesence, he re-enlisted again in March of 1865 and was mustered into Company F of the 193rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. After the war, he returned to his home in Mount Healthy, Ohio and became a prominent citizen of the community. Brown was one of the founders of the Mount Healthy National Bank and served as a clerk and treasurer of the Springfield Township Board of Education as well as the Director of the County Infirmary. He was elected to several terms as the Mayor of Mount Healthy and was an organizer of the Mount Healthy Savings and Loan as the secretary for over fourty years. He died in Mount Healthy when he was 83 years old as the last living Civil War veteran of Mount Healthy. He was buried at New Burlington Cemetery with military honors.
