Elizabeth died of the spanish flu in 1918, at the age of 34, and her surviving children, William John Cochran, Jr. and Anna May Cochran, were taken in by her sister, Mary Brennen Adams and her husband, Walter T. Adams, Sr., in 1919. After Elizabeth's untimely death, the children's father, William Cochran Sr., left for Atlantic City, New Jersey and worked as a painter. He died there in 1959.
Elizabeth is buried at St. Frances of Assisi Catholic Cemetery in Gastonville, Washington County, Pa., which is located about one mile from Finleyville Catholic Church.
