Published in the Portland Press Herald on December 3, 1978. Viola C. DePalmer, 63, formerly of Washington Avenue, died Friday in a Portland hospital following a long illness. She was born in Portland, the daughter of Giuseppe and Candita Gentile Pio, and attended local schools. She was a lifelong resident of the Portland area and communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Samuel DePalmer; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Maryann) Sanders; a son, Paul S.; three sisters, Mary Pardi, Joan Martelle and Mrs. Frank (Nicholina) Martinez; a brother, Joseph S. Pio, all of Portland; and nine grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 8:15 a.m. Monday from the Conroy-Tully Funeral Home, 172 State St., followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
