Martha Janelle (Donelson) Addington

June 30, 1931 - April 10, 2014

Nickelsville, VA - Janelle Donelson Addington passed away following a life of service devoted to her family, church and community. Born on June 30, 1931 in Scott County and passed on April 10, 2014 at her home. Janelle was the eighth child born to William J. and Ollie E. Donelson which preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Viola Maude Donelson, Clarice Donelson, Earl Donelson, Ada Ruth Donelson, Irene and husband Clyde Castle, Fred Donelson, and William Donelson Jr.; daughter-in-law Nina Addington.

Janelle grew up on a farm and loved to tell stories about her childhood including walking miles to school, working in tobacco and corn fields. Janelle graduated from Dungannon High School. Shortly thereafter she went to work as a telephone operator at Inter-Mountain Telephone Co. She married Bruce Addington June 9, 1950 and celebrated their 63rd anniversary June 9, 2013. To this marriage were born four children: Danny, Vivian, Douglas (deceased 1987), and Timothy. Janelle was devoted to her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed helping and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Janelle was always ready and willing to help with the sick, especially her older relatives. She loved the outdoors working with her many flowers, gardening, farming and fishing. Additionally, she loved to cook for her family, pastors, their families and her many friends. She was a devoted and loving wife, a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to all. Janelle was a previous member of Culbertson Chapel United Methodist Church and would relay her childhood days and profession of faith. At the time of her death she had been a member of Copper Creek Primitive Baptist Church (Addington Frame) for many years and attended as long as she was physically able.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years Preston Bruce and children Danny, Vivian and husband James Hall, Timothy and wife Susan; grandchildren, Justin Addington and wife Charity, Daniel Addington, Joseph Addington, Michael Addington and wife Nicole, Zachary Addington, Christopher Addington, Dee Dee Addington Hill and husband Bobby; great grandchildren, Jaelyn Faith Addington, Dalton Lee Addington, Olivia Addington; brother Eugene Donelson and wife Jean; brother-in-law Gladstone Addington; many nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City. Friends may also call anytime at the residence.

A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Rex McMurray and Elder Bobby Brown officiating. Music will be provided by the Bowlin Family.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, family and friends.
