Francis L. Stabley of York died March 8 at York Hospital. He was 86.

Mr. Stabley retired in 1986 from The York Dispatch, where he was a librarian for more than 30 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. He previously served with the Calvary in the Philippines.

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

He was a life member of Viking Athletic Association, West York VFW and Reliance Fire Co. He was a member of Lincolnway Lions Club, Shiloh American Legion, 13th Ward Republican Club, West Manchester Mall Walkers and AARP of Zion United Methodist Church.

Born in York Nov. 7, 1915, he was a son of the late Fred and Minnie Smith Stabley.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Gladys M. Stephens Stabley; a daughter, Jan M. Brown of Fallbrook, Calif.; a son, Jod L. Stabley of York; and a granddaughter.

Viewing is 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Koller Funeral Home Inc., 2000 W. Market St. The service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. George W. Fitch Jr., officiating.

Burial is in Mount Rose Cemetery.
