Aileen Ruth Oliver Childers, 96, of Kingsport, departed this world to go home to heaven on Saturday, April 8, 2017. She was born September 15, 1920 in Bean Station, TN to the late Mathew and Mary Ella Long Oliver.
Following her marriage, she resided in Kingsport until 1970 at which time she moved back to Grainger County. After the death of her husband she returned to Kingsport to be with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Childers was a member of Noeton Primitive Baptist Church, Bean Station, TN.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Childers; daughter, Wanda Lee Slaughter and all her siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Glenda R. Childers, Kingsport; son, William M. Childers (Johanna), Murrell's Inlet, S.C.; grandchildren, Kathryn Slaughter Burton (Rodney), Rebecca Slaughter Ayers (Warren), David Slaughter (Jodi), Melissa Slaughter Burton (Johnny), Sarah Slaughter McConnell (Jon), Fara Childers and Joshua M. Childers (Paula); 20 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in the Fireside Room at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7:00 pm with Rev. Tom Edwards officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kayley and Jay Farmer.
A Graveside and Committal Service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Noeton Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Bean Station, TN. Serving as pallbearers, Rodney Burton, Johnny Burton, Warren Ayers, Jon McConnell, Josh Childers, Bo Burton, Newley Burton and Peyton Taylor.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to special friends, Elaine Minton and Millard and Erma Burton. Also, their love and appreciation is extended to her caregivers, Pinkie Shaffer, Sandy Pauley, Charity McDavid, Dr. Kelly McQueen and the staff of Amedysis Hospice especially Nurse Lee, Rev. Tom Edwards and Ms. Shamock. Each of you were a blessing and inspiration during the last chapter of Mamaw's life.
