Marjorie Allene "Polly" Abbott, age 96, of 25 W. Hughes Street Belfast, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center, after a short illness. Polly was born on April 12, 1927, in Friendship, the was a daughter of William R. and Vivian J. Smith Scott. On January 1, 1957, in Wellsville, she married Douglas L. Abbott, who predeceased her on November 13, 1997.
Polly went to the Friendship Central School. She had worked at AVX in Olean for fifteen years and then went to work as a dietician at the Cuba Memorial Hospital for fifteen years prior to her retirement. In retirement, she provided in home care for many elderly residents.
She was a member of the Belfast Crafty Belles, McKee Tristar Chapter 242 Order of the Eastern Star, the Alle-Catt Camping Club with her husband and the Pinochle Club. Polly had numerous hobbies which included playing euchre, making quilts and crafting.
She leaves behind her children, Douglas (Debra) Abbott Jr. of Rochester, David (Lisa) Abbott of West Valley, Debbie (John) Goho of Mt. Morris, Linda (Gary) Brown of Florida and Sandy (Dan) Downs South Carolina; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, LeRoy (Mary) Scott of Wellsville; two sisters, Bertha Perham of Nunda and Catherine (Gene) Little of Belfast; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Abbott; a son, Albert Perham; two grandchildren, Peter Abbott and Bobby Jo Brown; two brothers, Robert Scott and Nathan Scott; two sisters, Betty Ferrin and Sophia Barton.
At Polly's request there will be no services. Burial will be next to her husband in the Riverside Cemetery, Belfast.
The family wants to express their appreciation for the care she received at the Wellsville Manor and their wish is that memorials be made to the Wellsville Manor Resident Fund.
