The year of death is an inscription error and should be 1887 based on the fact his son Clyde was born 4 Feb 1887 and his widow received her pension in 1888.

His calculated year of birth is all over the place, but right now my speculation is it was about 1819, assuming his father was Joseph. Speculation it was Gabriel just does not hold up to scrutiny.
