CLARA L. SURFACE
KIRKLIN -- Clara L. (Towler) Surface, 85, Rt. 1, Kirklin, died Wednesday, at Kingsbury Center in Lebanon after an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 27, 1907, in Adams and lived in Kirklin since 1958.
She was an elementary school teacher for Burney public schools for four years. She moved to Anderson in 1928 and operated Surface & Sons grocer from 1929 to 1942.
She was a member of Mechanicsburg Christian Church and its Ladies Circle. She attended Ball State University and obtained her teacher's license there.
Her husband, Henry A. Surface, died in 1968.
Surviving are a son, Charles L. Surface of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Lucy Lewis of Westport and Mary Flavell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. The Rev. Micheal D. Thompson of Union Chapel Community Church, Summitville, will officiate. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service.
