Joan's formative years were spent in River Rouge, Michigan. After obtaining her Registered Nurse Diploma from Providence Hospital she began working at the Veterans Hospital. She met the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) J. Aben, at a wedding while they were both working at the VA. Together they made their life and raised their family in Wyandotte, Michigan.
Beloved wife of the late Gerald Aben. Loving mother of Gerald (Jean) Aben, Mark (Martha) Aben, Susan (James) Sollinger, Joseph (Jodie) Aben, Mary (George) Rennie and John (Mary) Aben. Dearest sister of Mary (Darrell) Parks, the late Elizabeth (the late Tom) Sonderman, the late Shirley (the late Erwin) Rugg, the late Arthur (the late Nan) Valade, the late Richard (Marian) Valade, and the late Franklin (Val) Valade. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
