Our beloved mother passed from this life and was reunited with waiting family and friends the morning of April 5, 2017. She grew up in the Sisquoc/Santa Maria area.

She descended from the pioneer families of Goodchild, Ontiveros, and Rivas. Her parents were Allan Christopher Goodchild and Paulina Rivas Goodchild York. She was also blessed to have a step-father, Walter D. York in her life from an early age. All have preceded her in death, including her brother Allen Paul Goodchild and sister Beatrice “Beaty” Goodchild.

Her childhood was one of country living, with lots of family. There were always kittens, chickens, and horses. She was always encouraged to be a life long learner. She did not speak English until she went to school. Her first teacher was Erlinda Ontiveros, in the school room in Garey, CA. Later she attended the original Blochman School on Palmer Road near Cat Canyon, outside Sisquoc. She only attended one year of high school at Santa Maria High School. Her family moved to San Fernando, California, where she completed her high school education at San Fernando High School. She was very competitive in sports, lettering in five sports her senior year.

Following school she attended and graduated from a technical medical school in the Los Angeles area. She was later employed by Dr. Randall in Santa Maria.

She was married to John M. Woolsey Sr. November 10, 1949. There followed their six children, Beatrice *Beaty” Jones, John Jr. (Jean), Victoria Nannette (deceased), JoAnn Clark (Dennis), Cheryl Alexander (Dan), and Dixie Markstone (Dave).

After the children, most of her adult life was spent working for General Telephone, as an operator. She retired in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Woolsey in 1975, and her second husband, Joseph Potter in 1985. Her daughter, Victoria Nannette passed in 2010. She also lost her great-granddaughter, Cassandra Longest and her great-grandson, Murphy McNeil.

She is survived by 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grand children. There are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all beloved by “Grandma” Potter. She loved and accepted many in her life. We invite you all to join us.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary, Saturday April 15, 2017, at 9:00 am with a viewing preceding at 8:00 am. Interment to follow at the Tepuesquet Cemetary, Ontiveros Burial Grounds.

Following a luncheon will be served at Blochman School, 4949 Foxen Canyon Road in Sisquoc, CA. We plan to serve by 12:00 noon. We look forward to seeing you there.

Pallbearers will be Dolly’s grandsons: Allan Woolsey, Donald Woolsey, Daniel Alexander Jr, Joseph Alexander St, Toby Alexander, Manuel Alexander, Tim Clark, John Woolsey III, James Woolsey, Jacob McNeil and John McNeil.

The family would like to express love and gratitude to all those who have come forward offering help, assistance, condolences, and love. We are especially appreciative of the care given by the nurses, doctors, and staff at Marian Medical Center, Dignity Health, in her last hours. Thank you.
