Basil E. Friend, 83, of Silver Springs, Florida passed away at his residence on April 11, 2017. He was born on January 27, 1934 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to Jacob and Laura (Shoemaker) Friend. For a while he lived in Flint Michigan. He was with water rescue and saved 52 lives before coming to Florida. He and his sister Eileen came to Ocala Florida to take care of their mother.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Leon Friend, Donald Lee Friend, Robert Dean Friend; sister, Eileen Ruth Hodges and his nephew, Michael Valliere.

Basil is survived by his step son, Paul O'Brien and his spouse of 27 years, Velma J, Friend. They were married on June 9, 1990.

Basil was a Master Tiffany Artist and had been working in art glass for 43 years.

He had said "God is my time keeper and manager since he was spared in 1955, from a serious automobile accident".

Although Basil had an appraiser’s license in antiques, and brass refinishing, his profession of Master Artist has been the mainstay of his life.

He has made more than 1000 lamps - mostly custom orders. He designed and made some murals for Presidents; Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan.

Basil was always helping, had a big heart, and was loved by many who admired his lamp work.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, from 12:00 to 1:00PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services Chapel, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family at the visitation.
