Herbert S. Ragsdale, 70, of Peoria passed away at 7:25am on Thursday April 13, 2017 at Unity Point Hospital-Proctor in Peoria. He was born on July 30, 1946 in St. Louis MO, the son of Luther and Harriet (Fox) Ragsdale in St. Louis MO. He graduated from Riverview High School in 1964, from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1968 with a Bachelor’s of Music Education, and a Masters of Music from Illinois State University in 1974. He married Ann Sauer on June 14, 1969 in Watseka, IL, and they enjoyed 47 years of marriage.

Herb taught orchestra in District 150 starting in 1968 and his career spanned 34 years. He started in the Peoria High School area and moved onto Richwoods area schools where he became Orchestra Director for Richwoods High School, Rolling Acres, Lindberg and Northmoor. He was the founding director of the Peoria Park District Summer Orchestra Program in 1980.

He was a violinist in the Peoria Symphony Orchestra for 47 years, and served as personnel manager for twenty years.
