Son of Joseph and Kate (Lenihan) Dyra of Chicago, Rev. Father Joseph Dyra, C.M., was a Catholic priest of the Congregation of Mission of St. Vincent de Paul. He was the pastor of St. Vincent's Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and in 1964 he was the pastor of St. Vincent's parish in St. Louis, before coming to Los Angeles. From his obituary in the Los Angeles Times, Nov. 22, 1994:

He had also served as pastor and associate pastor in churches at St. Louis and Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and in Patterson, California. Beloved brother of Thomas Dyra of Illinois. Funeral Mass Tuesday, November 22, at St. Vincent's Church, Adams Blvd. and Figueroa St., Los Angeles. Committal in Calvary Cemetery, 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 23."
