John S. Hoover, Jr., 72, of L. Paxton Twp., died Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence. Born May 7, 1944 in Harrisburg, PA.

After retiring as a mail carrier and special delivery messenger from the U.S. Postal Service, he worked part-time as an electrician.

He was devoted to his dogs, Mitch and Maggie.

John had a great sense of humor and had a willingness to help those in need.

He attended the Scotland School for Veterans Children and John Harris High School. He served in the U.S. Army.

He was the bass member of the singing group, "Remember When".

His parents, John S. Hoover, Sr. and Pauline (Alberta) Hoover, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife, Beverly P. (Paolicelli) Hoover; 2 daughters, Jennifer McNair of Dillsburg and Christine Sweet (and husband, Awaan) of Mechanicsburg; stepson, Anthony Bown (and wife, Joni) of Stafford, VA; step daughter, Natalie Troutman (and husband, Wayne) of Roaring Brook, PA; 2 brothers, Robert J. Hoover of Millersburg, PA and William A. Hoover of Enola, PA; a sister, Peggy A. Zapcic of Hershey, PA; 5 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017, 12:00 p.m. at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17109 with the Rev. Lancelot Knight officiating. Viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
