Upon the death of Duncan McDougall... there passed away one of the pioneers of Canada, of that race of Scots who have done so much towards developing this Dominion. The late Mr. McDougall was a native of Argyleshire, Scotland, and with his parents came to Canada when 8 years of age, settling in Peel Country, Ontario. He resided there until well up in years when the westward movement seized him and he came to Manitoba first in 1872. In 1874, with his wife and family of twelve children he settled at Meadow Lea where he engaged in farming until ten years ago, when he took up land on the Portage Plains and continued agricultural pursuits until a few years ago. On retiring from active life he took up his residence in town and has been residing with his daughter, Miss Janet, on Countess St.

When a young man he was wedded to Miss Flora McCannell, who succumbed in 1898...

Mr. McDougall was very highly respected by all who new him and was of that staunch Highland disposition which stands for integrity and hospitality. He was a faithful Presbyterian and an advocate of all that tends to good citizenship. He was aged 81 years, 9 months and 1 day.
