Hugh Eugene “Gene” Barnard, 83, Ozark, died at 7:45 a.m. May 16, 2003 at the Missouri Veterans Home, Mt. Vernon, He was born July 3 1919 in Rogersville, the son of Hugh Byron and Nona M. (Shelby) Barnard. He was a retired paper salesman and he enjoyed golf and serving as a an usher and greeter at his church. He was a faithful member of Evangel Temple Christian Center. He also served his country in the military. He was united in marriage to Rosalie Haworth Carr on Oct. 15, 1988. Barnard was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Ellen “Mae”. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie, Ozark; his daughters, Deborah Ann Nigh and husband an, Springfield and Charlene Kay Turner and husband Herbert, Jerome; grandchildren, Augusta Shelby Turner and Rochelle Brooke Turner, both of Jerome; and other relatives and many friends. Services were at 2 p.m. May 19 at Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Rivermonte with the Rev. Charles Arsenault, officiating. Burial with full military honors was at Panther Valley Cemetery, Rogersville. Memorial donations can be made to Evangel Temple Christian Center, Springfield, or the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon.
