Franklin Dee Olds, 84, of Midland, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Avielle Haven in Midland. He was born November 8, 1932 in Midland, son of the late Frank and Mildred (Galarno) Olds. Mr. Olds was a 1952 graduate of Midland High School and served his country in the Naval Reserves for four years. On June 27, 1953 he married his loving wife of sixty-three years, the former Joyce Sayles. She survives him. Frank’s family and friends always referred to him as “Dee”. He was a lifelong resident of Midland and was employed by the Dow Chemical Company for thirty-five years. He served as Supervisor in the Agricultural Department, retiring from Dow in 1985. Dee was a great gardener, and canned many vegetables, including his famous dill pickles. Being an outdoorsman, He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a life member of the Pine River Longriflemen Gun Club where he served as President for three years. Dee was an excellent marksman and often competed in target shooting. His favorite hobby was building black powder muzzle loading rifles with great skill. He was active in local gun shows. Dee and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling to Florida, California and other various destinations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving besides his wife Joyce, are his two daughters, one son and their spouses; Christy (Louis) Kollar of Austin, Texas; Tracy (Thomas) Kollar of Ada, Michigan and Jim (Kathy) Olds of Terra Haute, Indiana; Grandchildren, Kathryn (Evan) Hart, Rebecca (Ben) Blowers, Dane Olds, Emily (Kyle) Davis, Sarah Kollar, and Kristin Kollar and two great-grandchildren, Robert Isaac Blowers and Lydia Ann Blowers. Also surviving is his sister, Patt Marsh of Midland.

Dee’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler St. in Midland on Tuesday April 25, 2017 for a Celebration of Life Visitation from 5-7 p.m. There are no other visitation hours or services scheduled. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the First United Methodist Church or Heartland Hospice.
