IRON RIVER---Lionel J. Ask, 89, died March 25, 2008 at the Iron River Care Center.
He was born June 27, 1918 in Iron River to John and Olga (Berg) Ask. He attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1937. He as a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines. After his honorable discharge he returned to the local area. On June 14, 1947 he married the former Florence Lindstrom and the couple made their home in Stambaugh. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in 2003. His wife preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 2003. He worked for the M.A. Hanna Mining Company in the local mines, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the First Baptist church, a church deacon, Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Esmeralda Salo and Dorothy Swanson.
He is survived by two sons, Roger of St. Paul, Minn. and Gary (Laurelyn) of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; grandchildren, Rebecca, Kevin, Cynthia (Seth) Goding and Nathan (Mandy); great-grandson Jonah; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held March 29 at the First Baptist Church of Iron River with the Rev. John Fish officiating.
Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
