Daniel is the second child and second son of Lashbrook Laker and Kate Cornelia Evans. His mother was the second wife of Lashbrook in a time of plural marriages and persecution of Mormons by the Federal Government. Soon after Daniel's birth his mother was moved to Garden City, Utah to evade the persecution and keep his father out of prison.
Daniel attended high school at B.Y.C in Logan for two years, 1905-1906. On June 27, 1907 Daniel married Martha Rebecca Woodhouse. She died nine months later of a weak heart. In 1909 Daniel was sent on a mission to Australia. He not only saw Australia but also Vancouver, British Columbia, Honolulu, Hawaii, and the Fiji Islands on the way there. In Australia he worked in the Melbourne District. He had many relatives there. On the way home in 1911 he visited New Zealand.
Daniel married Dora Catherine Hemmert on June 30, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They lived in Saint Charles with Daniel working for the construction company building the Lifton Pumping Plant and later getting a job with Utah Power & Light Co working as the operator of the plant for eleven years. Their five children were born during this time: Daniel Reed, Blaine Hemmert, Dora LaRee, William Bryan, and Anna Corneliua.
In June 1929 Daniel transferred to the Riverdale Power Plant in Utah near Ogden and moved the family there. The pressure on this job caused Daniel to have ulcers. After six years he transferred to Salt Lake City and became the condenser operation at the Jordan Steam Electric Station. It was a good change for him.
After retirement Daniel and Dora took a long trip through the northwest and California. They also visited Mt. Rushmore and toured through Colorado, New Mexico, Boulder Dam, Lake Mead, and St. George, Utah. He and Dora enjoyed temple work and welfare work as his health permitted. After a series of strokes, Daniel died at age 80.
