Eloisa Garcia Barrera passed away on Tuesday October 16, 2001, at the age of 91. She was born in Kenedy, TX on March 12, 1910 to Severiano and Eufemia Barrera. Miss Barrera was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Eusebio, Jose, Jesus and sister, Maria Ortiz. Miss Barrera, sister and brothers were orphaned at a very young age. Miss Barrera was raised and educated by her maternal aunts and uncles. She set her goal high and earned her Bachelor degree in Mathematics. She was a Mathematics Professor at La Normal (a university for Education major students) and later became Director of a Secondary School in Monterrey, Mexico. Miss Barrera enjoyed traveling extensively here and in Europe. She never married, dedicating her life instead to the care of those who raised her. Miss Barrera was cared for in her lengthy illness here in San Antonio by her devoted nieces, Evangelina Ortiz and Maria Sylvia Crisantes. A Rosary was recited Friday 7:30 P.M. at the Trevino Funeral Home. Procession will depart Saturday 9:00 A.M. for a 9:30 A.M. Mass at St. John Berchmans' Catholic Church. Interment will be held at a later date in Mexico.
