MISS SARA JACKSON ADAMS

Miss Sara Jackson Adams died on Friday, February 12 in her home on Front Street as a result of a complication of diseases. She was born in Durham New York on May 8, 1846, the daughter of Grosvenor S Adams and Nancy Usher Cone. She was graduate of Elmira College for Women at Elmira, New York and taught English, Latin and Music there for many years. Miss Adams were interested and active in civic and church affairs. She had the Greenport Auditorium built and managed it for a number of years. She was a staunch support of Woman suffrage and the first woman in these parts to advocate and work for it. She was for many years president of the W C T U and made trips to Europe, Alaska and the Holy Land. She was a member of the Greenport Shakespeare Club and a member of the Greenport Presbyterian Church since 1869, also president of the Women's Presbyterian Society for Missions on Long Island.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon from the Greenport Presbyterian Church, Rev Kermit Jones officiating; burial followed in the Adams family plot, Sterling Cemetery under the direction of S B Horton.
