Services for Michael (Mike) Dean Huff, 51, are set for 11 A.M., Monday, February 12, 2007, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
A family visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 11, in the chapel of Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.
The West Texas native and Permian High School Graduate passed away February 1, 2007, in New Maadi, Cairo, Egypt, where he had lived and worked 2 years.
Mike was born March 21, 1955 in Midland, Texas, to Sam and Sally Huff. He moved to Odessa in 1958 and graduated from Permian High School in 1973. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1975 and was stationed in Okinawa. Though he was honorably discharged in 1979, he remained a loyal Marine the rest of his life.
He was hired by Lufkin Industries in 1982. Initially, his main responsibility was sweeping the floors at the company's plant in Odessa. He steadily worked his way up the corporate ladder, a process that led to a move to Kuwait in 1997 as a sales representative in Lufkin's Middle East operation. He later moved to Egypt and was the Regional Sales Manger for Middle East and North Africa.
Mike was a unique and outgoing character who was almost impossible to ignore or forget. A supremely confident individual, he jokingly described himself as a "man with charisma." His large number of friends and his innate talent for making new friends in virtually any culture or spot on the globe lent credence to his self-portrait.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Sally Huff.
Survivors include his wife Lori, sons, Colin and Josh Huff of Odessa, daughter, Savannah Porter of San Angelo; brothers, Joe Huff and wife, Aloma of Leander, Texas; Carl Huff and wife, Terrie of Dallas; sister, Debbie Bailey of Humble, Texas; father- and mother-in-law Billy, and Phyllis Howell of Odessa; Brother and sisters in laws, Sherri and Jerry Dugan; Becky and Billy Howell, Mavis Howell (Me-Ma) and a whole host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Pallbearers will be, Mark Garner, Chuck Deathridge, Dane Widener, Randy Watts, Randy Hughes and Ron Chilcoate. Honorary pallbearers will be John Shelton and Bruce Shearer.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Lufkin Industries, Randy and Jeania Lewis, and The General Dynamics Family of Cairo. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
