Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Joseph S. and Deolinda (Furtardo) Almeida, she was a registered nurse and worked as a nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist in Boston and New York.
A 1949 graduate of the Union Hospital School of Nursing in Fall River, she received a bachelor's degree from Boston University and a master's degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
Miss Almeida worked as a volunteer at the Norwood Ecumenical Food Pantry, Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice and St. Timothy's Health Ministry.
She leaves her sisters, Priscilla C. Almeida of Lynn and Deolinda Correia of Norwell; her grandnephew and grandniece, Adam Correia and Sasha DeGraeve; her friend, Janet Dunphy of Norwood; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m., from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Rte. 1A), Norwood, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at St. Timothy Church.
Burial will follow in Church Hill Cemetery in Norwell.
Visiting hours are Friday, Feb. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
