The Fate of an Infant
The body of a male infant, apparently about two weeks old, was found by some boys in the Connecticut river near Fred Field's place on the Montague side Sunday afternoon. The body was wrapped in a white cloth and made to look like an ordinary bundle, and was without any marks that could be identified. It was viewed by Medical Examiner Twitchell. There was nothing to indicate that the child had died from other than natural causes, and had probably had been put in the river at the easiest way of disposing of it. Its jaw was broken, probably by going over the Turners Falls dam. The body had apparently been in the water two weeks or more and may have been put in the rive many miles away. It was buried in the town lot in Green River cemetery.
