Marie Canter Haden, 77, of Charlottesville, Va. passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Born on February 11, 1940, in Greensboro, N.C., she was the daughter of Claude and Gladys Canter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, James Canter.
Marie is survived by her husband, Warren S. Haden; and her sons, Michael W. Haden and his wife, Elizabeth, and Darren M. Haden and his wife, Stephanie. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Christen and her husband, Alex, Morgan, Abby, Elly, and Katy. She is also survived by her brothers, William Canter and Claude Canter, Jr.; sister, Dorothy Ferguson, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Marie was retired from the law office of Larry J. McElwain. She was an active member of the Mount View Baptist Church for over fifty-seven years. Throughout her life she enjoyed music, singing in and occasionally leading the Mount View choir. She enjoyed her years leading the Mount View youth and teaching her Sunday school class.
A one hour visitation will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Mount View Baptist Church in Charlottesville. The funeral will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Monticello Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Mount View Baptist Church, 908 St. Clair Ave., Charlottesville VA 22901.
