Rev. O. Howard Grantz, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, September 25, 2013, after he suffered complications from pneumonia while at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA. He had suffered a serious stroke in December of 2012 while living in Florida. He along with his devoted wife moved to Massachusetts in May (2013) to be closer to family. Rev. Grantz was born on February 1, 1931 in New Kensington, PA. to William John Grantz and Thelma (George) Grantz and was a graduate of Transylvania Bible College.
He was married in Peru, South America, to his wife Norine (Roth) Grantz. They were happily married for 57 years and served as missionaries in Peru, South America, with the Church of the Nazarene for a combined total of more than 40 years. Following his service as a missionary, Rev. Grantz ministered in the Nazarene church in Lancaster PA, worked at Martin's Country Market in Ephrata PA, and volunteered at Aurora Ministries in Bradenton FL. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and spent his last nine years prior to his stroke living at Bradenton Missionary Village in Bradenton, FL. Some of his interests included volunteering, reading, bowling, and playing table games. He loved spending time with those he cherished most: his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Norine (Weymouth, MA); son Joseph P. Grantz and wife Saralinn; (Hegins,PA), daughter Connie Grantz Vandervort and husband Karl (Weymouth, MA), and son John H. Grantz (Quincy, MA); his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Holly Grantz (Bradley and Tyler), Lebanon, PA; Heidi Fahler (Amy and Dillan) and husband Kevin, Lebanon PA; Joseph P. Grantz Jr. (Hope), Lebanon PA; Jessica and Rebekah Vandervort, Weymouth, MA; sisters: Janet Gruver (PA); Naomi Siegfried and husband Dennis (WY); Elaine Smith and husband Bob, (PA); brother Arthur Grantz and wife Johnnie (PA), and many nephews and nieces. Rev. Grantz was predeceased by his parents and a sister Rebecca Wagner.
A memorial service will be at the South Weymouth Church of the Nazarene, 385 Ralph Talbot Street, Weymouth MA., 02190 on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. A Graveside service will be at Memory Gardens 319 Wabash Road, Ephrata, PA 17522 on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
