Paul Laverne Ballard was born on Saturday; February 14, 1931 in Grinnell; Poweshiek County, Iowa. He was the beloved son of Lawrence E. and Laura B. (Carmer) Ballard. He was united in marriage to Alyce J. Nutt on Thursday; August 4, 1949 in Hannibal; Marion County, Missouri. He served his nation honorably in the United States Navy from 1949-1950. He was employed at Rapids Chevrolet for thirty-four years as Shop Foreman. For the last fourteen years Paul was Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Hiawatha; Linn County, Iowa. Paul enjoyed keeping busy with his work in his shed, and always loved a challenge. He also greatly enjoyed animals. He attended New Covenant Bible Church. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by those that loved him dearly. Paul Laverne Ballard, 75, of Hiawatha, passed away on Wednesday; February 7, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids; Linn County, Iowa following a sudden illness. Those left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Alyce. His daughter Paulette Ash and her husband Eric of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His daughter Joyce Carder and her husband Bruce of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His daughter Patricia Ballard of Hiawatha, Iowa. His son Bryan Ballard and his wife Carol of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His sister Mary Tuttle and her husband Russell of Malcom; Poweshiek County, Iowa and his sister Ruth Shore and her husband Larry of Ankeny; Polk County, Iowa. His granddaughter Michelle Lynn Ansell of Hiawatha, Iowa. His great grandchildren Hailei, Dakota, James IV, as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Junior, Robert and Jack, sister Josie, and granddaughter Shauna Lee Sharp.
