98 YEARS OLD
Mrs. Elizabeth Collett, who resided on Wheeling Island, W.Va., died at her home, Saturday morning February 2nd, at 2 o'clock. She was born in Loudoun county, Virginia, January 22nd, 1791. Her maiden name was Davis. She was married to Jeremiah Collett in 1809, at the age of 19, and moved to Wood county, W.Va., where Parkersburg is now located, but at that time a mere wilderness. She was the daughter of James Davis, who served on the staff of General George Washington, in the Revolutionary war, and her husband, Jeremiah Collett, served in the War of 1812, for which she was drawing a pension for the same. Her husband died near Parkersburg in 1851, at the age of 56 years. She was the mother of 7 children, five daughters and two sons, of which only one daughter, Elizabeth Collett, and one son, J. W. Collett, are living. She had a remarkable memory, recollecting well all the Presidents from Washington to the present time. She was united with the Methodist Church for more than 60 years, and died in the faith, believing that Christ had power on earth to forgive sins. Her funeral took place from her residence, Monday morning at 10 o'clock, where a large number of her many friends and acquaintances were in attendance. She was buried in the Peninsula Cemetery, in Wheeling, by the side of two of her daughters, Lucinda and Julia.
