Charles Duncan Birdwell was the firstborn of Moses Birdwell and Sarah Duncan.

1815, September 8: Moses Birdwell married Sarah Duncan in Madison Co., Miss.(Ala.) and afterward moved to near Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee, 35 miles from Fayetteville. She was the daughter of Charles Duncan Jr. and Mary Ann Woods.
In 1831, Moses Birdwell died while on a visit back to his parents' home in Alabama.

Charles Birdwell, wife, and 3 children; plus six slaves and 1 free colored person.

1843:
Charles D. Birdwell of Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee, sold a slave named Samuel for $500.00 to William Champion on 15 August 1843. Samuel is believed to have been one of the slaves his grandfather, John Birdwell, divided among his children and grandchildren in 1842.
